Sarabi is a CAG, Congo African Grey parrot (Psittacus Erithacus Erithacus), hatched on the 6th of June 2009. The name, Sarabi, was chosen because it is a name with African origin and it means "mirage" in Swahili. I brought Sarabi home from the breeder when she was 3,5 months, and had been weaned (able to eat "bowl food" by herself) old where she had been completely cared for by her avian parents up until the age of 2 months, before the breeder started hand feeding her. The first few months I fed Sarabi a baby parrot formula, luke warm, each evening and a banana mash each morning apart from the "bowl foods" she was given of which she ate independently. She would wake me up, always at around 7.40 a.m., with her "baby squawks" telling me she was hungry. She sounded somewhat like a hoarse crow. Or maybe a pelican?
Sarabi learned to speak pretty early on - when she was around 6 months old she had started saying more than one word in succession, having spoken a word or two previous to that age.
